Constituents asked to send card to soldier

By Jean Cole

If you do nothing else but stuff yourself with Thanksgiving leftovers this weekend, buy a card for one of our soldiers serving away from home this Christmas.

Congressman Parker Griffith, D-Alabama, is challenging students and other citizens of Limestone, Morgan and Madison counties to buy a card for a soldier, jot a note of thanks in it, bring or mail the card — unaddressed and in an unsealed envelop — to one of four locations by Tuesday, Dec. 8.

“The holiday season can be a difficult time of year for those who serve our country in uniform, particularly those who have returned from battle injured,” Griffith said. “Some are separated from family, friends and the traditions that have brought comfort and joy throughout the years. All of them are faced with a life forever changed by their service to our nation. Thoughtful words of encouragement and support from the great people of the Tennessee Valley can do a lot to boost the morale of our brave men and women.”

Griffith will deliver the cards to soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and to Redstone Arsenal employees, who will help distribute them to soldiers.

He will launch the card-sending effort at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Collins Elementary School in Scottsboro, where he will meet with students and the community. Here are the addresses where you can mail or drop off your unaddressed and unsealed card:

• Collins Elementary School

102 Legion Drive

Scottsboro, AL 35768

• Decatur office

302 Lee St.

P.O. Box 668

Decatur, AL 35602
