Grand jury to hear case of body in well

The case of an Ardmore, Tenn., man accused of killing his estranged wife and dumping her body in a well will be presented to a Lincoln County grand jury in October, an official said Friday.

Investigator Joyce McConnell with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said the district attorney’s office initially planned to present evidence against Keith Allen Lane, 35, of 229 Henry Bayless Road to a grand jury in September but decided to wait for the next grand jury session in October.

Lane remains in the county jail without bond following his arrest Aug. 14 on charges of sexual battery by an authority figure and assault in connection with the abuse of a child. He was later charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of his wife, Rachael Michelle Lane.

McConnell’s persistent search for the 36-year-old mother to investigate a report of child sexual abuse in the home eventually led to the accusation of murder against Lane.

Her body was found 28-feet down in a well on the Bayless Road property on Aug. 14, two days after authorities began searching the property for her.

The children have been removed from the home.
