— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A Huntsville man is going to prison for robbing three banks in north Alabama.
Authorities say that Tavares Antwan Oliver was sentenced by a federal judge in Birmingham on Thursday to more than 38 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in May to one count of bank robbery, two counts of armed bank robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
The government's sentencing report describes the 35-year-old as a drug abuser, a dead-beat dad and a thief. It says he has a gang affiliation and is dangerous and frequently armed.
Two other men have been convicted and sentenced in connection with the 2010 bank robberies. More than $93,000 was taken during one of the robberies.
