City urges patience during road projects

ATHENS — Roadwork is taking place in multiple areas around Athens, and Street Department Manager Dolph Bradford asks that motorists be patient during these improvements.

"Please be safety conscious to protect yourselves and our workers," Bradford said.

The four areas of road work are:

• The Sanderfer and Lucas Ferry roads widening and resurfacing project is on schedule. Preliminary work still is being conducted and paving will begin before the end of this month. This project is expected to take about two months.

• Forrest Street at the railroad crossing will take a couple more days to finish. Workers are doing painting and landscaping at the railroad bridge.

• One lane of Piney Creek Drive is closed while workers repair the asphalt above a sewer line. This should be repaved the week of April 22.

• During the week of April 22, workers are going to replace drainage culverts beneath Airport Road. This project will probably take several weeks to complete, and sections of the road will be closed during that time.
