Senate leader says no Common Core repeal for now

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The leader of the state Senate says legislation to repeal Alabama's Common Core standards is dead for this session of the Legislature.

Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh said Tuesday he doesn't plan for any Common Core bill to come before the Senate in the remaining four weeks in the legislative session. He says the issue deserves more study and should be put off until the 2014 session.

Marsh had supported the repeal of Common Core in two committee votes earlier in the legislative session. But he announced his new position Tuesday after about 300 educators and business people gathered on the Capitol steps to show their support of the Common Core standards.
