Burglary suspect: ‘I’m tired of being broke’

ARDMORE — A man allegedly caught breaking into an Ardmore grocery store Tuesday night told the arresting officer he was “down and out and tired of being broke.”

Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Shawley was responding to a burglar alarm at L & S Grocery about 11 p.m. when he arrived to find a white man in a black, hooded sweater crouched under a roll-up door that the suspect had wedged items beneath to prevent it from closing, Chief Deputy Randy King said Wednesday.

“Shawley made contact with the man and he made the comment, ‘I’ve just been down and out and I’m tired of being broke,’” King said.

Eric Blaine Garris, 23, of 323 Bates Hollow Road, Prospect, Tenn., was arrested on charges of attempted burglary and public intoxication, King said.
