Athens man arrested for growing marijuana

— An Athens man was arrested Monday after Limestone County narcotics investigators received a tip that marijuana was being cultivated in his residence, according to Sheriff Mike Blakely.

Jesse Steven Chandler, 27, of 17451 Red Hill Road, is charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Blakely said when investigators arrived at Chandler’s residence, they identified “an overwhelming odor of marijuana.”

Chandler told investigators he was growing marijuana, which he cut and was in the process of drying it out, the sheriff said.

Blakely said after receiving permission to enter the residence, investigators observed and seized approximately 20 marijuana plants and equipment commonly used for marijuana cultivation.

Chandler was taken into custody at the Limestone County Jail. Records show he posted $6,000 bail at 7 p.m. Monday.
