‘Tis the season … to be stealing.
It’s not quite a slogan for the season, but a warning from Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.
“Burglaries and thefts pick up this time of year,” he said. “They hit residences in daylight and autos at night.”
Blakely said cars in shopping center and mall parking lots are prime targets, especially if people leave packages and other items in plain view.
“People need to put them in the trunk, out of sight,” he said.
He also recommended not leaving anything in vehicles overnight — even if they’re parked in driveways.
“They should remove anything of value from cars,” he said.
Homes are targets of burglars during daylight hours, when residents are either at work or out shopping. Blakely said people should keep an eye on their neighborhoods and also around businesses and stores.
“Please be observant,” he said. “If you see someone or something suspicious, call us.
“People can do a whole lot to prevent becoming a victim.”
