Athens man accused of sexually abusing child

— An Athens man accused of sexually abusing a child under age 12 remained in the Limestone County Jail Tuesday evening, records show.

Vence Dewayne Romine, 33, of 17135 Sneed St., was arrested Sunday on a warrant after a Limestone County grand jury formally charged him with sexual abuse of a child under age 12 and second-degree sexual abuse, records show.

Court records regarding this alleged crime have been sealed to the public, and Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones could not be reached Tuesday for information about the age or sex of the alleged victim in the case.

Romine made his initial court appearance Monday in Limestone County Circuit Court, at which time he was informed of the charges against him and he requested a court-appointed attorney, records show.

On Monday, Romine listed his address on court records as 12294 Grigsby Ferry Road, Elkmont. However, a jail official said Tuesday Romine listed his new address as Sneed Street in Athens.

Bail is set at $15,000.
