— A $1,000 reward has been offered for information that solves a Christmas time burglary at Round Island Baptist Church southwest of Athens, Sheriff Mike Blakely said Wednesday.

The break-in is the third to occur at a Limestone County church in the past few weeks, the sheriff said. There is evidence the suspect may have committed similar church burglaries in Morgan and surrounding counties, he said.

The intruder entered the church late Christmas Eve or early Christmas Day by throwing a concrete block through a back door and then kicked in several inner-office doors, Blakely said.

“It did not appear that anything was missing — it looked like they were looking for money,” the sheriff said.

Church officials plan to taken an inventory to be sure, Blakely said.

The church is located at  1 4 7 9 0   B r o w n s F e r r y   Road, between Zehner Road and McCormick Lane.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 256-232-0111.
