UPDATE: ALDOT to sand U.S. 72 overpass at Interstate 65

ATHENS — The Alabama Department of Transportation will sand on the U.S. 72 overpass at Interstate 65 in Athens tonight or Monday morning.

ALDOT notified Athens Police of its plans just after 9 tonight after the overpass was beginning to become slick.

Athens Public Works crews also intend to sand slick spots on roadways and intersections in Athens at 4:30 a.m. Monday unless police advise it earlier, city spokeswoman Holly Hollman said.
