Athens schools approve personnel, volunteers

ATHENS — Athens school board members approved several personnel items during their regular monthly meeting Thursday. Here is a synopsis:

• Accepted the retirement of Isaac Collins, foundation of engineering teacher at Athens High School;

• Accepted the resignation of Bill Vaughn as seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball coach at Athens Middle School;

• Approved the transfers of Christy Swafford to instructional technology specialist at Central Office, Pat Smith to gifted teacher at Athens Intermediate School, and Cheryl Pennington to technology teacher at Athens Intermediate;

• Agreed to hire Jim Parsons as bus driver;

• Added coaching supplements for football, baseball and softball coaches at Athens Middle;

• Granted leave of absence to Kerri Truett, media specialist at Athens Intermediate;

• Granted maternity leave to Carla Lawrence, English teacher at Athens Middle, and Katie Blair, art teacher at Athens High;

• Approved volunteers for Julian Newman Elementary School, Athens Middle School and RSVP.
