Two days after running from police and being arrested on drug charges, an Athens man has been charged with breaking into a car and stealing prescription medication, an official said.
Athens Police Detective James Kennedy arrested Brandon Keith Adams, 28, of 21720 Piney Chapel Road, Lot 8, on Tuesday afternoon in connection with a theft that occurred earlier this week, Capt. Trevor Harris said.
A woman had parked her car at a shopping center and returned a few minutes later to find six types of mediation missing from her vehicle. Under questioning by police, Adams admitted he was walking by the car when he noticed the medications, reached inside the car, stole the prescriptions and walked away, the lieutenant said.
Two days earlier, on Sunday, police officers had been attempting to question Adams about a separate vehicle break-in when he fled on foot but was captured moments later near Marion Street and Fourth Avenue, Harris said. Adams was charged with possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, attempting to elude a police officer and tampering with physical evidence.
“The theft of medication from the vehicle occurred approximately 40 minutes prior to his foot chase and subsequent arrest on Sunday night,” Harris said. “It is believed the pills he had in his possession were the fruits of the earlier breaking and entering a vehicle crime.”
Adams is being held without bail in the Limestone County Jail.
