Suspicious car at county home leads to drug bust

Three people were arrested on drug charges early Tuesday morning after Limestone County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a call about a suspicious car at an empty house, checked it out and found the suspects inside, an official said.

Limestone County Chief Deputy Randy King said Deputy Jamie King responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at an empty house on Harvest Road about 2 a.m.

“Once he got there, he noticed the front door had been busted open and he could hear someone inside the residence,” the chief deputy said. “He was able to make contact with the homeowner, who lives in Missouri now, who advised him no one was supposed to be in the house.”

King then called Deputy Martin Evans for backup, and the two found three people inside the home as well as a suspected methamphetamine lab, the chief deputy said.

Arrested were Amberly Dawn Miller, 22, of 12719 Burgreen Road, Madison; Jimmy Harrison Smith, 34, of 24308 Frank Gossett Road, Athens; and Travis Morris Rucker, 32, homeless; on charges of first-degree manufacturing a controlled substance, $50,000 bail; possession of a controlled substance, $5,000 bail; and possession of drug paraphernalia, $1,000 bail.

Burglary charges may also be pending, the chief deputy said.
