Pharmacy open at U.S. 31 Hometown Grocery

— There’s a new pharmacy in town. Billy and Monique Cannon, pharmacists and owners and operators of Eastside Pharmacy and Custom Compounding on U.S. 72 since 2007, have opened a pharmacy in Hometown Grocery at U.S. 31 and Hobbs Street.

Monique Cannon, a pharmacist since 2002, said the new pharmacy opened Feb. 6.

“We haven’t done much to promote it until the last week or so because it takes time after opening a pharmacy to establish insurance contracts, which has to be done with each new location,” said Cannon.

Cannon said she and her husband, Billy Cannon Jr., alternate spending time at the new pharmacy, but they have hired a full-time pharmacist, Claire Adams, to staff the Hometown Pharmacy.

This is the first time for the Cannons to venture into a new location since opening the U.S. 72 East location on Oct. 18, 2007. Monique earned her pharmacy degree from Auburn University in 2002 and Billy earned his pharmacy degree from Samford University in 2007, after having earned a degree in business from Athens State University.

“It is a pleasure to serve our community doing what we love to do,” Monique said. “We are happy to have Claire Adams on board. As always, we provide free delivery, and with the new location at Hometown, customers can shop while their prescriptions are being filled.”

Adams, a Mississippi native who lives in Huntsville, said she earned her pharmacy degree in 1990 and has worked in home infusion and consulting.

“But half of my career has been spent in community pharmacies such as this,” said Adams.

Hometown Pharmacy is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

“Our business is building up,” said Adams. “We’re starting from scratch, which is different than opening a chain. As people realize we’re here, we expect more customers.”
