Two roads in the city will be widened and paved starting Friday, weather permitting.
City of Athens Street Department Manager Dolph Bradford said the project involves Sanderfer Road and Lucas Ferry Road.
“Portions could be under construction for the next 60 days,” Bradford said.
The resurfacing of Lucas Ferry will be from Elm Street to Sanderfer Road. The resurfacing of Sanderfer will be from the intersection of Lucas Ferry to U.S. 31. The city received $777,874 through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, or ATRIP, for the project. The total cost is $972,347.
“We ask for the public’s patience as sections of these roads are closed, which will cause delays,” Bradford said. “We also ask that motorists use caution as construction workers and city crews will be on the roads working to make improvements.”
Bradford said the Street Department will install signs to notify motorists of daily detours, areas of construction and speed limit changes.
