Athens Bible's Homespun expands

ATHENS —

The 34th annual Athens Bible School Homespun craft show is adding a charity 5k race and car show to the weekend’s lineup.

Registration begins today, April 5, at Casa Blanca Mexican restaurant located in the Lindsay Center on U.S. 72 East in Athens. With a $20 registration vendors will receive $3 coupon, and be automatically entered into drawings for door prizes to be awarded on race day. Registration will be from noon until 6:30 p.m. Bankston Motor Homes, a race sponsor, will be showcasing a C-class RV at the restaurant.

The starting gun of The Homespun Wheels and Deals Charity 5K Run presented by Bankston Motor Homes will fire at 8 a.m. on May 4.

The course will weave through the downtown and historic districts of Athens. After the race, participants can enjoy shopping the sundry vendors at Homespun. The show features over 60 vendors that sell homemade crafts and food items. Homespun is slated for May 3, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and May 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organizers with ABS said they are excited to provide this avenue by which three charities may raise money. Racers may choose to raise money as well as run for one of the following charities: The Autism Society of Alabama, Sacred Selections, and Limestone County Veteran's Burial Detail.

Bankston Motor Homes will give $1,000 to the charity that raises the most money and to the charity that has the most runners finish the 5K fun run. All money to be counted toward a charity’s total must be turned in at the race information tent by 8 a.m.

The 5k Run/Walk will be followed at 9 a.m. by the one-mile Fun Hop, sponsored by The Grasshopper children’s boutique. All ages may register for $5 to receive a wristband, or $20 for a T-shirt. Late registration for the 5k Run/Walk is $25 after April 26. Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. Entrants registered before April 26 are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Registration is also available online at www.athensbibleschool.org. Or racers may pick up a registration form and a donor receipt packet at Athens Bible School on 507 Hoffman Street in Athens. Make checks payable to one of the charities listed above.
