Storms bring flooding, no major damage

— Following an active day of thunderstorms, officials with the city of Athens were reporting several streets as impassable shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Athens Utilities were also responding to outages that affected about 114 customers.

A tornado watch was issued shortly before noon, followed by a tornado warning for southwestern Limestone shortly after 3:30 p.m.

A rotating storm was reported near Greenbrier and Mooresville Road, though no major damage was reported. The Limestone County Emergency Management Agency reported a downed tree on Bibb Garrett Road.

Storm damage was also reported at Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center. Media reports indicated the side of a building was ripped off at MSFC by high winds.

Today through Sunday is expected to be sunnier and mild, with highs in the upper 60s.
