County honor band to perform Tuesday

— For the first time, the Limestone County honor band has been expanded to feature two bands that will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clements Baptist Church at 8690 U.S. 72 West.

“This year is the first time we’ve ever tried to expand it to two bands, with a symphonic honor band and a concert honor band,” said Gary Russell, who is in his 15th year as Clements High School band director. “The symphonic band has the highest-scoring students, and the concert band has students who are above average performers.”

Approximately 200 students auditioned for the 100-plus slots on March 19 at Clements High School, this year’s honor band host. They each played a musical piece and were judged on their performance and skill level.
