Groups seek votes for big gig

From staff reports

— Two popular North Alabama bands are vying for a chance to play at the annual Bonnaroo Music Festival, regarded as one of the top music festivals in the country. To make it happen, however, they’re going to need votes.

The Whiskey River Kings and The Valley Roots, both of which hail from the region, have been accepted into the voting round for a performance slot at the festival, held each year in Manchester, Tenn.

Online voting will begin Wednesday, and only two bands will be selected. Voting details will be available on the bands’ Facebook and Twitter pages.

Both bands are signed to the independent Dirrty Apple Records of Harvest.

The Whiskey River Kings were named the “Best Overall Band” and “Best Rock Band” in Madison County by readers of Valley Planet Magazine.

The Valley Roots have earned acclaim through an appearance at the South By Southwest Festival.
