Veterans Day parade set for Nov. 9

The sixth annual Athens Veterans Day parade is set for Nov. 9.

Grand marshals are Carmen Montgomery of Carbon Hill and Alice Rogers of Athens. Louise Steel, also of Athens, is the honorary grand marshal.

The parade will step off at 11 a.m. at Athens High School and follow the Christmas Parade route.  After the parade, free chicken stew will be served at the Vietnam Veterans Building.

There will be trophies awarded  for the most patriotic and the best overall display. Any veterans, bands or organizations who want to participate should register by Nov. 6. Organizers are asking a $25 participation donation.  For information, call 256-206-6702.

Last year, about 120 groups and organizations participated.
