Weekend events could impact traffic in Athens

Two weekend events in Athens could impact traffic if motorists don’t plan ahead.

The Athens High School homecoming parade will step off at 3 p.m. today. The parade will leave the school heading west on Hobbs Street, go around The Square and head south on Jefferson Street to Hometown Grocery.

The Sherri Adams Pink Ribbon run will start at 9 a.m. Saturday with an expected 600 runners.

It begins at the corner of Fitness Way and Washington Street. Runners will make their way west down Washington Street before turning right on Bullington Road. Runners will make another right on Hobbs Street to West Market Street, continue the race to Marion Street and take another right. The finish line is on Washington Street.

City officials said traffic would be blocked during both events. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
