UPDATE: Man accused in 1 plant bomb threat faces 1-10 years in jail

— A Decatur man could face 1 to 10 years in prison if convicted of phoning in a bomb threat Wednesday to Carpenter steel plant, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of workers.

It was the second bomb threat in two days made to the Carpenter Technology plant off U.S. 31 near Calhoun Community College. Both times employees were evacuation and each time no bomb was found.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, Limestone County Sheriff's officials arrested Carpenter contractor James David Sanford, 32,  of 1709 Beech St., on a charge of making a terrorist threat  in connection with the second bomb threat. Sanford remained in the Limestone County Jail Thursday, with bail set at $10,000. However, he also has an outstanding warrant from Tuscaloosa County.

Sanford admitted making the call Wednesday about 9:15 a.m., which prompted the evacuation of about 350 to 400 employees.

Tuesday's threat was made about 2:30 p.m., prompting Carpenter officials to send workers home for the day.
