Clements students selling shirts for storm relief

Organizers hope to sell 500 shirts by May

— After the Coxey community took a direct hit from a deadly EF3 twister, two Clements High School seniors started a T-shirt sale to help classmates impacted by the April 28 storms that tore through Limestone County.

McKenna Sampson and Alec Van Wagnen designed a coral T-shirt featuring a black ribbon and the “We are Limestone” slogan, selling the shirts online for $15 at http://Booster.com/WeAreLimestone.

The students’ goal is to sell 500 shirts by May 17, according to the fundraising website. On Friday, Athens Rotary Club purchased about 63 shirts in honor of the Clements senior class.

Nearly $4,000 has been raised and 476 shirts were sold as of Tuesday night.

Limestone school officials said at least 104 students from Clements and nearby Blue Springs Elementary School were left without homes due to the storms. A total of 747 homes countywide received storm damage, according to the Red Cross.
