Camp Hope venue changed due to rainy forecast

— Hospice of Limestone County’s annual bereavement camp for children is being moved to an indoor location, organizers said Monday.

Camp Hope will be held Tuesday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Limestone County Event Center at 114 West Pryor St. in Athens, with the Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m.

Camp coordinator Dana Pressnell said the likelihood for inclement weather prompted moving the event from its outdoor location at Camp Helen to the event center.

About 75 volunteers and 61 campers ages 5 to 15 are participating this year, Pressnell said. Children had to pre-register to attend.

“Hospice has been doing Camp Hope for about 15 years,” she said. “Normally, we have swimming, fishing and other outdoor activities, but we had to move the camp because of the 70-percent chance of rain.”

Children are being asked to bring a blanket or beach towel for an indoor picnic and board games labeled with their names.

“We’re going to be doing parachute play, (timed games), relays, story time and arts and crafts,” Pressnell said.
