Bentley administration laying out budget plans

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Gov. Robert Bentley's administration is laying out his budget recommendations for the Legislature.

The Legislature began its 2014 session on Tuesday. Bentley's state finance director, Bill Newton, will explain the governor's proposals for the General Fund and education budgets on Wednesday.

Revenue forecasts from the administration and from the Legislature say there will be more money available in the education budget for the next fiscal year, but less for the General Fund budget, which finances many state agencies.

The Legislature has until April to complete work on the two budgets. The budgets will take effect Oct. 1.
