APD searching for two males involved in Tanner ATM heist

Athens Police are searching for two males involved in ATM heist in Tanner.

The ATM was stolen from Bud’s at U.S. 31 and Huntsville-Brownsferry Road.

According to Police Chief Floyd Johnson, Officer Megan Meredith was patrolling the area at approximately 2:44 a.m. when she discovered the door at Bud’s had been broken out.

Johnson said when management arrived they determined the ATM machine had been stolen. While reviewing the security tape, officers and management saw two white males in a white Ford F150 pull up to the store, the chief said.

“One of the males got out and threw a concrete block through the door,” Johnson said. “One of the men went in the store and pushed the ATM over. The other male then went in and helped take out the ATM.”

Johnson said both men loaded the machine into the back of the truck and left the store, traveling east on Huntsville-Brownsferry Road.

“Both men had on black hoodies and black pants,” Johnson said. “One of the men was heavy set and had plaid underwear on.”

The truck was a municipal vehicle reported stolen from the City of Triana, the chief said. The Triana Police chief later located the stolen vehicle, he said.

Those with information involving the case, should call Investigator Jonathan Caldwell at 256-233-8700.
