Senior Fun Fest! — A new celebration for area seniors

— The Senior Fun Fest! formerly known as the Older Americans Festival, has been held for seniors for nearly three decades. This year's event is 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday May 6 at Sharon Johnston Park in New Market.

The event is hosted by TARCOG and the Madison County Commission.

Officials with those organizations say they are committed to celebrating seniors every day, but during the month of May — National Older Americans Month — they are committing to hosting an annual event that both commemorates and celebrates area seniors.

Seniors will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of events, entertainment and games. Local talent will be showcased, including culturally diverse entertainment. Games with prizes include putt-putt golf, bingo, Plinko, Nerf ball and Frisbee toss. Seniors can fish in the lake, sit and enjoy music or participate in all the activities. They can also have a take-home memento picture taken at “Ready for My Close-up.”  Lunch will be served.

Advance tickets are $3. Any remaining tickets are $4 the day of the event. Officials ask that tickets be purchased in advance.

In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Friday, May 9.

Contact TARCOG at 256-716-2440, or your local senior center for tickets or more details.
