An Athens man was arrested Monday on charges of misdemeanor possession of gambling devices after police seized 26 gaming machines.
Chief Floyd Johnson said the department had received complaints about the illegal business, located in a building next to a home at 911 E. Strain Road. After officers executed a search warrant and found the machines, 71-year-old Archie Gilbert of 911 E. Strain Road, Athens, was arrested.
Johnson said the devices accepted paper currency, and more than $2,100 cash was recovered with the machines. He added that there appeared to be no alcohol or drug sales at the location.
Gilbert was released on $500 bond.
