Report: Dr. Memon hospitalized

— Dr. Iqbal Memon, an Athens physician who was recently charged with hindering prosecution for aiding the attempted flight of his son, a murder suspect, was hospitalized late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, according to WAFF 48 News.

Memon was in The News Courier office in Athens until about 5:30 p.m. Monday after he arrived to ask a reporter to write a story about his efforts to change legislation on the age at which a juvenile can be charged as an adult. Hours later, emergency crews responded to Memon’s Madison home after receiving a call about a man having a seizure.

His condition is currently unknown. A Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday morning she had no information “on a patient by that name.”

Dr. Memon, who also has a pediatric office in Madison, and his wife Safia face charges for hindering prosecution after investigators say Safia tried to leave the country with their son Hammad, 16, earlier this month.

Hammad was arrested at age 14 and charged as an adult for the shooting death of classmate Todd Brown, also 14, at Discovery Middle School in February 2010.
