Update: Bond set for man charged in New Year's Eve murder

— Two Limestone County men fighting over borrowed action movies on New Year’s Eve day were wrestling before one fatally stabbed the other with a pocketknife.

Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones told The News Courier Wednesday Kenny Dewayne Adams, 35, of 14916 Chris Way, Lot 6, was intent on retrieving two DVDs he had loaned to his cousin, Yancey Metz Foster, 34, of 14580 Chris Way, Lot 6, on the afternoon of Dec. 31.

Adams had gone to Foster’s home at the Chris Way trailer park off Blackburn Road west of Athens to get the movies, titled “The Fast and the Furious” and “2 Fast 2 Furious,” when the fight ensued, authorities said.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said Adams told investigators Foster struck and grabbed him, so he stabbed him.

The district attorney said that at some point Foster got Adams in a headlock, so Adams reached into his own pocket, retrieved a pocketknife and stabbed Foster, striking him once in the left chest. Adams then fled the scene heading toward his trailer across the road.

Foster telephoned 911 at 2:36 p.m. to report he had been stabbed.

When Sheriff’s Lt. Guy Simmons arrived at the scene, he was directed to a bedroom to the right of the backdoor of the home. There, he found Foster lying on his left side on the floor just inside the door, according to court records.

Simmons stated in his report that Foster was “still breathing but he could not communicate with me.”

The lieutenant questioned Yancey’s father, Ronald Foster, who lives at the same mobile home along with Yancey’s young son. He told Simmons the two men had gotten into an argument about the movies and Adams pulled out the knife, stabbed Yancey and then fled from the trailer heading toward his own trailer across the road.

Jones said the child was not in the room when the stabbing occurred.

Simmons said in his report that he noticed the victim had been stabbed in the left chest once emergency medical personnel arrived and began treating him. Emergency personnel took Yancey to an awaiting ambulance but he died before he could be transported, according to the report.

About 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 31, Adams was seen walking south on Blackburn Road north of the trailer park. Simmons said he met Adams near the entrance to the park and detained him for further investigation. According to Simmons report, Adams appeared sober at the scene, indicating he was not intoxicated. The sheriff said the knife was found later under a lawnmower at the home of Adams’ mother.

He was charged with murder Dec. 31 and has remained in the Limestone County Jail since. On Wednesday afternoon, Limestone County Circuit Clerk Charles Page Jr. held bail hearing for Adams via videoconference. Bail was set at $50,000 and Adams was also ordered to have no contact with the victim’s family, Page said.
