One northbound lane now open after wreck on Interstate 65

One northbound lane is now open on Interstate 65 after an early morning wreck, according to reports.

According to the City of Athens, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said tractor-trailer ran into a northbound Department of Transportation work site on Interstate 65 north of 565. The accident occurred at about 4 a.m. near the Tanner Community.

Four non-life threatening injuries were reported. According to Limestone County Coroner Mike West, two victims were treated by Athens-Limestone EMS, one by Decatur EMS and one by First Response. Three paitents were transferred to Huntsville Hospital and one to Decatur General. West said he believed the driver of the 18-wheeler refused treatment.

Traffic has been rerouted to U.S. 31, and could cause delays.
