BREAKING: County resident deluged by voters calling wrong number

By Jean Cole

— The number 6 is giving a Limestone County man fits this week, and the chairman of the Limestone County Board of Registrar’s Office says voters have the power to ease the man’s burden.

Lee Liveoak told The News Courier Friday his office recently mailed cards containing voter registration information to 48,500 county voters. Those whose address and other voter information is listed correctly are directed to do nothing with the card. Those whose information is listed incorrectly are directed to mail it back with corrections so their information can be updated, Liveoak said.

The problem is the telephone number listed on the card, which was included to give voters who had questions a way to call the Registrar’s Office for assistance.

“The number 6 in the telephone number looks like the number 8 to some voters,” Liveoak said. “When they call it, they get a county resident and not the Registrar’s Office. This gentleman has already gotten about 100 calls.”

Liveoak said the correct number to call for assistance is 256-233-6405.
