Ala minister on paid leave after wife's slaying

— HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama minister is on paid leave following the slaying of his wife.

The First Baptist Church of Birmingham posted a message on its Facebook page Saturday saying Rev. Richard Shahan is taking time off to heal.

The announcement came after Shahan spent two days being questioned by Homewood police about the death of wife Karen Shahan. Authorities say she's the victim of a homicide.

No one has been charged, and police say no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

Authorities found the woman dead inside the couple's church-owned home three weeks ago after she failed to show up at work.

Police say her husband was out of town visiting relatives when her body was found.

Shahan is a pastor to children and families at the church.
