Five arrested in drug bust

ATHENS — Five men are facing drug charges following a bust Saturday night that began in the Athens Walmart parking lot.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Lt. Lance Royals said he and Investigator Josh McLaughlin and deputies Sean Doyle and Josh Garlen observed five men taking part in what appeared to be a drug deal about 7 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot.

“We had been watching a guy’s house and we saw them leave,” Royals said. “We saw the vehicle pull up (in the parking lot) and one of the suspects get out and get into another vehicle and then leave a few minutes later.”

With assistance from Athens Police, the Limestone officers stopped one of the vehicles in the parking lot of the old Kroger building at Forrest and Marion streets. They stopped the other vehicle in the Walmart lot, Royals said.

Authorities confiscated an ounce of powder cocaine valued at $320 from the vehicle at Forrest Street, Royals, said.
