Beavers went 1-9 in his first season with the Colts. Clements, a Class 3A school, belongs to the one of the most competitive regions in the state. Annual Region 8 opponents include two-time defending state champion Madison Academy, traditional powers Colbert County and Deshler and county rival Elkmont.
The Clements program has endured four consecutive 1-9 seasons, with its last winning season coming in 2009 when the Colts went 7-4 under then-coach Barry Daniel and played in their fourth straight postseason.
Prior to Tanner’s 2A state championships the past two seasons, Clements is the last team in the county school system to win a football state title after winning the 1A championship in 1966.
School system officials are expected to search for the next football coach early next semester.
