Athens woman accused of stealing sister’s identity

ATHENS — An Athens woman has been arrested for allegedly opening accounts at stores and other businesses using the identity of her sister, an official said Tuesday.

Athens Police Investigator Eric White arrested Christine Alberta Scales, 29, of 213 Cloverleaf Drive, Apt. 14, with one count of identity theft, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said. She is accused of using her sister’s name and other information to open accounts with Direct TV, Charter, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Lowe’s and Bill Me Later, Johnson said.

Scales was booked at the Police Department on Monday and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
