ASU, UNA host alumni to promote new master's programs

— The University of North Alabama Limestone/Athens Alumni Club will host an alumni dinner to promote two UNA master’s programs being offered at Athens State University.

Athens State is already offering the UNA master’s of business administration degree program. Beginning this fall semester, ASU students will be able to enroll in the UNA master’s of arts in elementary education program.

UNA President Bill Cale and Athens State President Bob Glenn are both scheduled to attend the UNA alumni chapter’s dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Center for Lifelong Learning at 121 S. Marion St. in downtown Athens.

Carol Lyles, director of alumni relations at UNA, said the dinner and meet-and-greet was organized to promote the partnership, which will make more master-level degrees available to ASU students and boost enrollment for both schools.

“We’re trying to recruit more students, and both prospective students and alumni are welcome to attend,” Lyles said.

The event is free but Lyles said reservations are requested by Friday, July 26, to allow a head count for the light dinner.

The UNA MBA program is a 34-hour graduate program with a traditional option for professionals who want to concentrate on a specific area of study, while an executive option focuses on professional development and mentoring.

Students who graduate from the UNA MAED program are eligible for a recommendation for a Class A Alabama Professional Educator certificate in K-6 elementary education. The MAED program consists of 11 three-semester courses and a non-credit orientation with both traditional instruction and online elements for each course.
