Speed limits change


Speed limits will be lowered on sections of four Athens streets in the coming days.

Police Chief Floyd Johnson asked City Council members Monday to lower from 30 miles per hour to 25 mph at the following locations:

• South Houston Street from U.S. 72 to Washington Street;

• Coleman Avenue from U.S.  72 to Brownsferry Street;

• Grave Avenue from U.S. 72 to First Street;

• West Pryor Street from Jefferson to Hine Street.


Council members unanimously agreed during the regular meeting Monday to lower the limits.
