Grand jury to hear murder case

No decision on capital murder charges for Moyers

From staff reports

Murder suspect Joel Moyers waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning, and his case will now go to a Limestone County grand jury.

Moyers, who was charged with felony murder in the shooting death of 26-year-old Brandon Hydrick on Sept. 29, has been free on $260,000 bond. District Attorney Brian Jones said Tuesday that a date for that hearing has not been set.

In addition to the murder charge, Moyers is charged with firing into an occupied vehicle, which is also a felony.

Jones said in October that Moyers’ charges could be upgraded to capital murder. On Tuesday, he said the case is still being investigated and that his office has not made a determination on the capital murder charge.

In an article appearing in Sunday’s edition of The News Courier, Hydrick’s girlfriend Brownen Murray said she and her family are campaigning to ensure Moyers, if convicted, receives the maximum sentence.

If Moyers were charged with capital murder, a judge would have the option of setting bail or jailing the accused without bail until the trial.
