Georgia man arrested on Limestone rape charge

— The Sheriff’s Office arrested a 25-year-old Georgia man Tuesday night after he revealed raping a Limestone County woman at her residence, Chief Investigator Capt. Stanley McNatt said Wednesday.

Britt Burklow Sangster, of 39 Sandra Lane in Cleveland, Georgia, is charged with first-degree rape after McNatt said he confessed to investigators.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning and Sangster admitted he raped the intoxicated woman after she fell asleep, McNatt said.

“She is an acquaintance of his and they had been out to dinner earlier (Monday) and then went back to her home,” he said. “(Sangster) stated to Investigator Jeff Kilpatrick in his interview that he had sex with her while she was in an unconscious state from drinking.”

Sangster, a utility lineman for an Indiana company, was working at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant and in different parts of Alabama, McNatt said.

Records show Springer was booked at 7:23 p.m. Tuesday at the Limestone County Jail. As of Wednesday evening, he remained in custody with bail set at  $25,000.
