— The Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will make its way through Athens at 9 a.m. today.

Runners plan to meet on the west side of The Square and run to Athens Elementary School and back to The Square. Runners will run with the Flame of Hope across the state Thursday and Friday on their way to the State Special Olympic Games at Troy University.

The Athens Police Department encourages the public to meet the runners at 9 a.m. on The Square to cheer and support their efforts for Special Olympics.

Officials said the section of run in Athens is expected to take an hour.

Motorists should use caution in the downtown area and around the school during the run, officials said.
