Strong storms possible today through July 4

— Strong thunderstorms will be possible today and through the July Fourth holiday, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

The NWS says scattered storms will be possible today with the greatest coverage north of the Tennessee River. The storms could produce wind gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph, hail, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall. Storms are expecting to diminish after sunset this evening.

Storm chances will diminish slightly Tuesday afternoon but increase from Tuesday night through Wednesday night. Numerous storms are also expected from July 4 through Friday as tropical moisture will interact with an upper-level disturbance. A few storms may be strong-to-severe.

Thunderstorm chances will diminish through the second half of the weekend, the NWS says.
