A man accused of breaking into the apartment of his former girlfriend and choking her is now facing a felony domestic violence charge, an official said.
Laquinten Demar Malone, 25, of 2106 Aretha St., Athens, was arrested Tuesday morning on a charge of third-degree domestic violence, records show.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said police received a call about 9:30 a.m. about a domestic violence incident at 1102 Henry Drive.
When officers arrived, the alleged victim told them her former boyfriend, Malone, had climbed the balcony of her apartment and entered.
“The victim said when she woke up Malone was standing over her,” Johnson said. “He then started hitting and choking her.”
When officers arrived, Malone had fled.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh McLaughlin found Malone a short time later on U.S. 72 East. Malone was arrested and booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
