By Jean Cole

ATHENS — An Athens Police officer on Saturday was looking for a truck whose occupants were suspects in a theft from the Family Dollar store on South Marion, Police Chief Floyd Johnson said.

When the officer found the truck, he also found drugs that led to the arrest of an Athens man and a Madison woman, Johnson said.

During a search of the truck, Officer Mac McWhorter found a kit containing 20 Sudafed tablets, a syringe, a razor blade as well as a spoon with a white powdery substance and a plastic bag containing 1.9 grams of a white powder, both of which tested positive for methamphetamine, Johnson said.

Arrested were Mickey Dale Sanders, 30, of 17200 Ferry Road, Athens, and Kesha Ann Stewart, 21, of 13121 Henderson Lane, Madison, on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Johnson said.

The accused were booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $6,000 each, records show.
