Woman charged with theft

ATHENS — A former Hardee's employee accused of stealing a deposit from a local restaurant is facing a theft charge, an official said.

Athens Police on Tuesday arrested Brooke Leshaye Carroll, 31, of 210 E. McClellan St., Athens, on a charge of first-degree theft of property, Chief Floyd Johnson said.

She is accused of taking $2,800 on Jan. 31 that was supposed to be deposited at a local bank, Johnson said.

Carroll allegedly told officers and investigators she made the deposit, the chief said. After authorities reviewed a bank videotape, they determined the deposit had not been made, Johnson said. Carroll later told investigators she kept the money, the chief said.

She was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where she was released on bail.
