Athens season ends at NW Regional final

HANCEVILLE — Parker used smothering defense to beat Athens 46-31 in the 5A Boys Northwest Regional final Friday. Athens went more than 10 minutes during the second half without a basket, allowing Parker to go on a 23-0 run and pull away.

Parker held Athens to its lowest point totals of the season at halftime when the Thundering Herd led 19-17.

Parker forced seven turnovers and held Athens to 37 percent shooting from the field in the first half.

Giddy Potts had 11 points for Athens at the break.
