‘Brief, spin-up tornado’ hit Limestone County

ATHENS —

High winds and a brief spin up tornado damaged or destroyed several buildings and brought down trees and power poles Thursday night, according to a statement from the Limestone County Emergency Management Agency.

The statement said the National Weather Service in Huntsville is still evaluating the data to determine the track of the storms and category of tornado.

Some of the damage reported are: Clements High School campus received minor damage; Wright Road (off U.S. 72),  two mobile homes with minor damage; Cox Road, Allison Loop and Blue Springs Road (off U.S. 72), four homes with minor roof damage; Bay Hill Marina, homes and condominiums received minor damage, two vehicles destroyed;

Bay Hill Marina - Vehicles destroyed; Elkmont area, homes received minor roof damage; county, several out buildings destroyed.
