Athens man accused of sexual abuse of teen girl

— An Athens man was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly sexually abusing a minor. John Wayne Kelley, 45, of 12273 Lukers Way, Apt. 1-C, Athens, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse.

Athens police arrested Kelley after receiving reports about incidents involving a 13-year-old female related to Kelly. Both incidents occurred June 11 at different times in the area of Fifth Avenue and the train tracks, according to police. Sexual abuse is defined as sexual contact by forcible compulsion.

Kelley was booked at the police department and transferred to Limestone County Jail. The police department was assisted by the Athens Limestone Child Advocacy Center.
