BREAKING: 2nd man identified in May 24 fatal crash near Athens

— Authorities have identified the second of two men killed in a May 24 crash west of Athens.

William Dakota Day, 19, of Mill  Spring, N.C., has been identified as the man driving a 2007 Dodge pickup that ran off the road, struck a tree and burst into flames approximately 4:11 a.m. that day on U.S. 72, one mile west of Athens, State Trooper Curtis Summerville said today.

Day and his passenger, Joseph Edward Volz, 25, of Avon Park, Fla., were pronounced dead at the scene, though the Alabama  Department of Forensic Sciences had to confirm Day's identity through DNA evidence.
